    Verónica Abrego holds a Ph.D. in Romance Studies from the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, where she is currently working after a research project at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (2018-2021). Her fields of work are cultural and literary studies, gender and translation studies, with a special focus on intersectionality, migration and memory. In addition to various chapters in books and journal articles, her publications include "Erinnerung und Intersektionalität: Frauen als Opfer der argentinischen Staatsrepression" (2016, on Enforced Disappearances and Women Victims of State Repression in Argentina) and the collaborative volumes "Nación y migración: España y Portugal frente a las migraciones contemporáneas" (2015, with Cornelia Sieber and Anne Burgert), "Intersektionalität und erzählte Welten. Literaturwissenschaftliche und literaturdidaktische Perspektiven" (2023, on applying the intersectionality paradigm to literary studies and literary didactics, with Ina Henke, Magdalena Kißling, Christina Lammer and Maria-Theresia Leuker) and "Redes transatlánticas: intelectuales y artistas entre América Latina y Europa durante la Guerra Fría" (2023, with Thomas Bremer).

    Claus Arnold is Professor of Medieval and Modern Church History in the Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Mainz. He studied Theology at Tübingen and Oxford and holds a STD from Frankfurt-Sankt Georgen. He received his habilitation in Church History at the University of Münster in 2003. From 2004 until 2014 he was a tenured professor of Church History at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. His research interests include the Modernist Crisis in Catholicism and the history of the Roman Curia.

    I am currently Full Professor for Translation Studies: Interpreting at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz in Germersheim, Germany. Prior to taking up this position in 2026, I was Professor for the Theory and Practice of Interpreting (English) at the Institute of Translation and Multilingual Communication at TH Köln - University of Applied Sciences, Cologne, Germany from 2013-2026. Before that, I held tenured academic positions at the Centre for Translation and Intercultural Studies (CTIS) at The University of Manchester, UK, and Saarland University, Germany.

    My research focuses on (1) interpreter agency and ideological positioning in institutional settings, and the impact of interpreters as gatekeepers of multilingual discourse; (2) negotiation and construction of the Self/Other dichotomy and the positioning of language(s) and interpreters in discourse, particularly in contexts of nationalism and immigration; (3) research in interpreting pedagogy and didactics, specifically related to the development of situated expertise and communities of practice. I am currently working on the SUMME research project (Superdiversity, Migration, Power, Ethics - the positioning of interpreters in Politics). Recently, I have become interested in understandings of translation and interpreting in theorising the more-than-human. Methodologically, I am particularly interested in descriptive and ethnographic research.

    Stefan Berti holds a diploma in psychology and a master's degree in sports science. He received his doctorate in psychology from the University of Leipzig in 2002. Since 2003 he has been at the Department of Psychology at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, where he teaches Biological Psychology. He is also head of the research ethics board at the Department of Psychology. Currently, his research focusses, among other topics, on investigting the neurocognitive foundations of illusory self-movement perception (vection).

    The research in the Besenius lab focuses on the synthesis of organic and supramolecular functional systems. We design molecular and macromolecular building blocks that self-assemble into programmable polymers, adaptive materials in aqueous media and in the bulk. Utilising natural and non-natural supramolecular interactions we investigate multifunctional systems for applications as temperature-, pH-, oxidative stress and mechano-responsive hydrogels and biomedical carriers, biomaterials, as well as the development of synthetic vaccines for immunotherapy.
