Dr.José Raúl Ortiz Vallejos

I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Ancient Studies, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. My research focuses on Mesoamerican archaeology, with a particular emphasis on Maya ceramics, ceramic technology, cultural interaction, and archaeometry. My current project is MESOPOTS, under the leadership of Maria Ivanova-Bieg, which examines the use of early archaeological ceramics in Mesoamerica through lipid residue analysis, aiming to identify the resources processed in the vessels (aquatic and terrestrial animals, plants, etc.).
