Paul Frederik Hodes

Paul Frederik Hodes works at two chairs at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz: the Chair of Business and Economics Education, headed by Prof. Olga Zlatkin-Troitschanskaia, and the Chair of Business and Economics Education and Management Psychology, headed by Prof. Christian Dormann.

His research is situated in the field of empirical educational and social research, with a particular focus on current challenges in higher education. Key research areas include competence development and assessment, digital learning environments, and the ways in which online information landscapes influence students’ knowledge acquisition and critical thinking. Particular attention is devoted to how students deal with misinformation in digital contexts and to strategies for fostering critical thinking and effective evaluation of online information.

Further areas of research include the development and evaluation of innovative digital teaching and learning materials as well as the integration of start-ups as innovative actors in vocational education and training. The research is characterized by interdisciplinary and methodologically integrative approaches and is conducted in close cooperation with numerous national and international partners.

Paul Frederik Hodes’ current research focuses particularly on critical online reasoning and the factors that influence it. He is a member of the DFG Research Unit “Critical Online Reasoning in Higher Education” (CORE). His doctoral research examines the influence of vocational education on the critical online reasoning skills of economics students.
